What Would It Take To Repeal The 2nd Amendment
We have now seen a frenzy, children being paraded in the streets, anyone who dares to question what a child is doing trying to tell us how to vote and run this country is quickly shamed. There are from ex-supreme Court Justices to civic leaders calling for Australia type laws to strip away our rights to the It is due to the 2nd Amendment that we preserve our right to exercise the 1st and the rest. If you take away the right of our people to hold the government accountable, then what is to prevent them from stripping us of the other rights we hold so dearly?; others are saying the amendment is antiquated, meant for a day long past, it has no bearing on today, then calling to repeal such a troublesome amendment.
Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens of the 2ndAmendment in a New York Times op-ed Tuesday, and he urged demonstrators pressing for gun control to do the same. His bold proposal has prompted many questions about whether such a fundamental change to the U.S. Constitution is legal – let alone politically – possible.
I have to question Justice Stevens, does he have such little care for the constitution that he is flippantly throwing out ideas of tossing out our rights? A question needs to be raised, why are these type of justices with so little regard even being nominated? It has always bothered me while sitting on the highest court a political persuasion or any activism should be frowned on, the Justices are put in place for the highest calling to protect and interpret the law, not to be involved in political activism, yet look to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, she has openly stated her intent to stay on the bench until a liberal is elected, but at 85 one has to question her ability to carry on the job, maybe it is time to do what many other nations do, put in place a manditory retirement age with the highest court.
But with all this said, what would be the chances that the left could succeed in this? First, I think they have about a snowball’s chance in hell, to amend the constitution you have to first have two-thirds of both houses vote on a change, but this is just the beginning, you also have to have two-thirds of the states vote on this as well.
While this may be something West Coast and East Coast states would stand for, any politicians in the red middle of the nation would find any such move would put their political aspirations to an end, to back such a thing would be political suicide. A look at the political sway on maps shows the massive problem with this, also, remember if you did try to make such a move you would energize almost every conservative and any independent that leans either center left, or center right, such a move would not turn out well for the DNC come next elections.
But there is even a great question, although I see no way ever to have such a move be done, there just is not even close to the support needed to push such a move through, but what do you think Americans would do if you tried to grab their weapons? I would say there is a good chance that many of these law abiding citizens would take up arms against the government, such a move could very easily plunge this nation into a civil war.
One also has to question why the sudden attention on assault weapons, the simple truth is they only make up a small fraction of gun deaths in the US, if you are going to say you want to fix the problem, why aren’t handguns brought into the subject?
The reason for this is simple, many on the left like the idea of self-protection, where you see the majority of the votes, in black neighborhoods there is also the greatest numbers of gun violence, the legislators know if they came through in these neighborhoods and tried to grab these weapons there would be a riot of epic proportions, the deaths from young gang members carrying pistols would skyrocket, they know this would not do well with their sheep they want to continue to vote for them. And if you are offended by calling them sheep, I could care less, anyone that continues to vote, not based on what has been done, rather collective pressure are sheep, if you tried this with me, I would vote for the other party out of spite.
Last, I need to address these moves to try to limit the right of citizens, infringing on a constitutional right, trying to strip what you can do within this right until the right itself is just a shadow of what was intended, so let’s deal with some of the claims made by the left, look at their moves as well.
Claims the only intent on bearing arms were musket type weapons
Today we see moves to take away semi-automatic and automatic weapons, the claims by the left are when the second amendment was made up the government soldiers only had muskets, I have to say, this is the weakest argument yet. For starters, you are right, they only did have these guns, but we have advanced, why was it OK back then to protect yourself from tyranny when others had muskets but now when the others you are protecting yourself from have automatic and semi-automatic weapons it is not OK? Seems they forget the first part of their argument.
Guns were intended for hunting only
This is another nonsensical claim, if this was the case then why did our founding fathers say this:
“To disarm the people [is] the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” George Mason
“To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.” Richard Henry Lee
The claim that “militia” just refers to the National Guard is ridiculous. The same Congress that passed the Second Amendment also passed the Militia Act of 1792 which defined the militia as “each and every able-bodied male citizen” from age 18 to 45 (with some exceptions) and stated that each one shall “provide himself” with a gun, ammunition, and a bayonet. I get more into this with Our Founding Fathers And The Second Amendment.
History of the left and gun control
One of the most interesting things I recall, when I was younger, was tracing where funding for activist groups came from that wished our 2nd amendment rights stripped from us, one of these groups was the American Communist Party, not much has changed since then, they are still pushing to have our right to arms stripped from us, sadly today there is very little difference between this party and the DNC as they shift further and further to the left. We saw with the socialist movements in Europe, the first thing they did when they seized power has stripped the right to possess arms from the people, an armed citizen is not as easily subdued as unarmed one.
What is also of interests is the connections to the DNC the American Communist Party has maintained over the years, primarily through the Labor Unions, through universities, we now see this with the almost uncontested support of the DNC from both and the attacks of members within if they dare support or vote otherwise.
We need to remember, any attack on any right is an assault on all of them. One asks how does the 2nd amendment have any prevalence today? I answer, “It is due to the 2nd Amendment that we preserve our right to exercise the 1st and the rest. If you take away the right of our people to hold the government accountable, then what is to prevent them from stripping us of the other rights we hold so dearly?”
So what would it take to repeal the 2nd amendment? I think the US government and the left would find much truth in the old saying, “The only way you will take this gun is to pry it from my dead fingers,” all I can hope is we never need to find out.
