NATO Members Demand Safeguard Of Ships While Doing Nothing
In what is rapidly turning into a schism between NATO members and the US, with Iranian attacks and now capture of tankers in the Gulf, all these nations, even Britain is demanding the US protect shipping lanes, but they refuse to join in helping do this themselves.
But there is more, what we have now are nations that feel the US is obligated to protect their interests, but when they are asked to join in they refuse on principle. With this in mind, what can be done?
First, if a nation is going to ignore Iran, tell the US that this is our fault, then refuse to do anything, we should pull back all protection from any flagged vessel that is not bringing oil to nations, other then the ones that are part of the coalition. We need to inform China that we will not protect any of their tankers, they are aiding Iran, let them protect their tankers.
Second, we need to let nations that are not part of this know that if this comes to a shooting war, the US can aid in shipping energy needs to these nations if the Straits are shut down, but we will not send a drop to any country that is not actively participating.
If nations want to trade with Iran, that is fine, we have to stop giving any exemptions, and I include China in this, then we need to cut off all trade with them. In the end, what Iran is consuming and shipping out is a drop in the bucket compared to what the US holds.
Leading this charge is Germany and France, if this is the case, and they don’t wish to participate, let them do it, as I said in the paragraph above, let them know that if further actions come, they will be responsible for safeguarding all shipments coming to them, we will do nothing.
Now, if Italy, France, and Germany wish to start their own European force for protection, that is fine, but I would not change my stance with them, they refuse to acknowledge the violation of Iran in regards to their treaty, they do nothing but make up excuses for them.
