Why Should We Care What Hollywood Thinks?
We have all seen the angry Hollywood starlet, the breathless reporting around them, but why should their opinion matter to any of us? With their far-left leanings, are they even in tune with the rest of Americans? Also, why does anything think someone that acts is somehow better qualified then you or I to make up our own? We look at why the press gives them the time of day when it comes to politics, more so when they are so far of step with what the average American thinks.
I have a friend of mine, his mother sang with the musical Group Peter, Paul, and Mary, was a beautiful and sweet woman. Passed away years ago, but her son and I have been good friends for the last 25 years, have enjoyed very much my friendship with him. He, due to his mother had maintained with figures from Hollywood that were very much on the left in their opinions.
It was one of these people that decided on Facebook, to scold me on my political beliefs, then thought because they were entitled as an actress to tell me how to believe. Needless to say, that did not go very well, pretending to be something or someone else for a living makes you wonderfully qualified as a actor or actress, sure does not meet any standard I would look for in someone to seek political advice, so I started to take facts, go point by point and destroy each argument she presented.
I think the thing I found funny, was her belief that she held as a truth that was different than mine, that somehow her opinion since this is really what her truth was, she thought that this invalidated mine that was based on facts. I think her real offense came when I told her that her opinion was like her rear, only meant something to her, she was entitled to her opinion, facts, on the other hand, she was not.
This did not go well, she kept telling me she was a famous actress, and no, I am not like Washington DC, I don’t release names, but needless to say, she was upset when each time she would tell me she was an actress, I asked why she thought this gave her unique insight, did she think this was somehow qualifying because she could act? Further, Hollywood has been known for its excess, assuming it is above the world, their far left outlandish belief, all while belittling us who will not buy into it.
When I was done, she blocked me, guess she figured out somehow I was wrong to not bow to her opinion, more so when I told her that if I wanted advice or views on politics, the LAST person I would EVER seek would be someone from Hollywood, I have seen enough of their lunacy with Madonna saying she wants to burn down the White House, Trump is seeking to ‘kick out’ all people from the US who were not born there, that he wishes to destroy the free press enshrined in the Constitution, and that he wants to erase the arts from American culture, at least according to Myrel Streep he is.
I figure today, if I want to know about politics, I look at what Hollywood says, then seek the opposite opinion, that sadly seems to be the best route to go. More so, while I have no problem with actors or actresses protesting or marching, that is part of the American experience, the increasingly violent rhetoric, the demands that we do away with the constitution, the rule of law, that opinions matter more than facts, I want nothing to do with this. While I support their right to free speech, one has to ask, “Why do they think they have a right to demand this, yet refuse to give this same consideration to anyone else?”
Hollywood is shooting themselves in the foot, the same way the NFL did while trying to ingrain politics into something we run to so as to get away from politics, if you are going to try to force this down our throat, then don’t cry when we turn you off and look for something that has no politics in it.
As I have said many times, Hollywood should stick with acting, movies, but if they keep getting involved with politics, as we saw in the Obama years, they risk alienating the majority of American who don’t care about their opinions, we watch TV to escape them.
So Taraji P. Henson, Bryshere Gray, Trai Byers, Jussie Smollett, Tasha Smith, Gabourey Sidibe, and Grace Gealey, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Richard Schiff, Olivia Wilde, Robert De Niro, Lena Dunham, Mark Ruffalo, producer Shonda Rhimes, Bryan Cranston, America Ferrera, Stephen King, writers Andrew Altschul and Mark Slouka. Cheryl Strayed and Amy Tan, Susan Sarandon, John Legend, Jack Black, Comedian Sarah Silverman, Samuel L. Jackson, Comedian Chelsea Handler, Comedian John Oliver, Ben Stiller, J.K. Rowling, and the rest of you, stick to what you do best, or you could end up after you have insulted the majority of Americans, and now much of the world, find your sales dipping, no one will go see your shows in protest, and you authors, people will start to boycott your books.
I am personally tired of this, no one berated or scolded them for voting for the most corrupt and inept president we have have had in our history, President Obama, how dare they think they have the right to do this back to us, and we will take it lying down.
Do you want to know whom I will seek advice from? The ones that vote, the plumber down the road, the mother taking care of her babies while she watches a world around her, that her children are going to grow up in crumbling, I will seek the senior that fought in Vietnam, even the older ones that fought in Korea, the ones that know what true sacrifice for your country means. I will seek out the Iraq vets, the youth that is excited about voting for the first time, they are the voices behind the vote, it is time we do what many politicians refuse, listen to the people that vote.
